Learn how to make a beautiful “scrap” basket using fabric strips, cotton clothesline, a few glue sticks and any embellishments you want. Based on the concepts in the book "Its a Wrap" and "Its a Wrap II" by Susan Breier, you will learn how to create your own one of a kind basket from fabric strips and cotton clothesline. We'll teach you how to wrap, and how to sew and shape your basket and then embellish it for a special handmade basket that will make a perfect gift for someone or a great catch all for your sewing area. Students will end up with two finished baskets by the end of the course, one plain unwrapped basket to embellish and the other wrapped in the fabric of your choice. Take a look around the shop for examples made recently by your instructor, Diane Fama. Once you’ve learned the basic technique, there are a wide variety of things you can make with fabric wrapped clothesline. Examples will be shown at class and each student will go home with a complete set of instructions written by the teacher.

This half day machine piecing class has been split into two sessions where we will teach you how to utilize those 10" squares and a background fabric to create a really cool modern quilt. Where: Sew Jersey Instructor: Betsy Vinegrad Fee: $100 per person

The “Riva Ridge” quilt is a modern version of the traditional Thousand Pyramids quilt design. What makes it different? Why, color, value, and texture… three components modern quilters hold dear to their hearts. The repetition of equilateral triangles may be a timeless traditional quilting component, but other artists have also been inspired by its simplicity. One piece of art often is the jumping off point for another artist’s work. Case in point: Betsy Vinegrad’s quilt design was inspired by a painting by artist Gary Andrew Clarke, who painted a canvas entitled, “Variation on Max Bill”. Three artists, three artworks, and three interpretations of the triangle. Try your hand at varying the size and color scheme of this lovely pattern. Don’t forget to add your name to the list of artist’s inspired to create with a simple geometric shape.
